The legendary Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is Bombay's most famous hotel and arguably its best. It is made up of the historic palace building and a modern tower annex, both of which have all the amenities that come with a five star hotel. When I stayed here in February 2009, only the rooms in the tower were available, while the old palace building was still undergoing renovations following the terrible attacks of November 2008. Ground floor shops, restaurants and the swimming pool in the Palace, though, were open for operation. A stay here is unforgettable, for the service is impeccable and the ambiance is loyal to Bombay and its history.
