The ancient capital of Hoa Lu - Vietnam 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Tour code : HN3
Destination : Ninh Binh
Duration : 01 day

Highlights :
o Visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries and learning more about one ancient capital of Vietnam
o Enjoying a rowing boat trip through the 3 caves (Tam Coc) in beautiful scenery

Good for :
o Anyone wanting to see famous destinations in Ninh Binh province

Summary: Hoa Lu was the capital city of Vietnam under the Dinh Dynasty between 968 and 980 AD and ancient sanctuaries and tombs can still be seen today. Apart from the historical importance, the area is naturally beautiful, referred to many as the “dry Halong Bay,” with limestone peaks and fertile green valleys. The tour includes being rowed along the Boi River, which makes for a truly unforgettable experience, passing between towering limestone peaks.

Detailed Itinerary:
o We leave Hanoi at 08.00 and head south for the two hour drive along Highway One to Ninh Binh.
o We spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries. These are the two remaining temples of the ancient citadel of Hoa Lu. The first is dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang (also known as Dinh Bo Linh), an Emperor from the Dinh Dynasty. The second commemorates the rulers of the Le Dynasty. Dinh Bo Linh successfully conquered Vietnam’s first independent rulers, the Ngo Dynasty. On his death in 980, General Le Hoan wisely married Dinh’s widow and established the Le Dynasty and enlarged the citadel.
o We then move on to Tam Coc for a three hour boat trip along the Boi River. This area is rightly often referred to as the Ha Long Bay on land due to the similar topography.
o We return back to Hanoi at 6pm.
